❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? We’ve got answers! Here’s everything you need to know about joining a SolPlay class or workshop.
1. Do I need any improv or acting experience to join?
Nope! All of our Level 1 classes and Pay-What-You-Can workshops are designed for total beginners. No scripts, no memorization — just a willingness to play and try new things.
2. Who can take classes at SolPlay?
SolPlay classes are for adults (18+). We welcome people from all backgrounds, whether you’ve never set foot on a stage or have years of performance experience.
3. What if I’ve done improv before?
If you’ve completed Level 1 at SolPlay or another improv school, you can join Level 2 or higher. Even experienced players often retake Level 1 to refresh their fundamentals and reconnect with the joy of play.
4. How long are classes?
Our core classes run for 8 weeks, meeting once a week for 2.5 hours. Workshops and jams are one-time events that typically last 2 hours.
5. How much do classes cost?
We’re launching with a special introductory rate of $295 for all 8-week core classes. Prices will increase in the future.
Workshops and jams are Pay-What-You-Can, with a suggested contribution of $5–$30 — but truly, pay what feels right for you.
6. What should I wear?
Dress comfortably in clothes you can move in. No need for costumes — just you and your willingness to play.
7. What if I’m shy or nervous?
That’s totally okay (and very common). Our classes and workshops are structured to be supportive, low-pressure, and fun. Many students start out nervous and end up surprised by how much they enjoy themselves.
8. Do you offer discounts?
Yes! If you repeat a level you’ve already taken with SolPlay, you get 50% off that class.
9. Where are classes held?
We currently teach at:
Carroll Baldwin Hall – 9035 Baltimore St, Savage, MD 20763
Howard County Arts Council – 8510 High Ridge Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21043
10. How do I sign up?
You can register directly on our website — either from the Home page or the Classes section. Spots are limited, so we recommend signing up early.
