❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? Here are some of the basics about joining a SolPlay class or workshop.

1. Do I need any improv or acting experience to join?

Nope! Level 1 and beginner workshops are designed for people with little or no improv experience. No scripts or memorization. Just come ready to play, experiment, and try new things.

2. Who can take classes at SolPlay?

SolPlay classes are for adults ages 18 and older unless otherwise stated. People from all backgrounds and experience levels are welcome.

3. What if I’ve done improv before?

If you have previous improv training, you may be eligible to begin above Level 1. Contact SolPlay if you’re unsure which class is the best fit.

Experienced improvisers are also welcome to retake Level 1 to revisit the fundamentals and experience the SolPlay approach.

4. How long are classes?

Core classes run for 8 weeks and meet once a week for 2.5 hours.

Workshop lengths vary, so check the individual event listing for details.

5. How much do classes cost?

Core 8-week classes are currently $335.

Workshop pricing varies by event and will be listed when registration opens.

6. Do you offer discounts?

Yes. If you repeat the same SolPlay class or level you’ve previously completed, you receive 30% off that class.

7. What if I have to miss a class?

Missed classes are not eligible for refunds or prorated tuition.

When another section of the same course is running, you may be able to attend the corresponding session as a makeup, space permitting and with advance notice. Makeup sessions are not guaranteed.

Class notes may also be provided to help you stay connected with material you missed.

8. What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. No costumes or special clothing are needed.

9. What if I’m shy or nervous?

That’s completely normal. SolPlay classes are designed to be supportive, playful, and low-pressure. You’ll build into the work gradually rather than being expected to perform perfectly from the beginning.

10. Where are classes held?

Current classes are held at:

Howard County Arts Council – Capitoline Center
8360 Court Avenue
Ellicott City, MD 21043

Check your class listing and registration email for specific room and arrival information.

11. What is your cancellation and refund policy?

You may receive a full refund if you cancel at least 7 calendar days before the first class meeting.

For cancellations fewer than 7 days before the first class, tuition may be transferred to another eligible SolPlay class or held as class credit if the request is received before the second class meeting.

Once the second class meeting has begun, tuition is nonrefundable and cannot be transferred or credited.

For complete details, please see the Registration Policies & Terms.

12. Do you offer payment plans?

Payment plans may be offered for some classes during designated registration periods. When available, the payment schedule will be provided during registration.

Students using a payment plan remain responsible for the full tuition amount, subject to the cancellation and refund policy.

13. How do I sign up?

You can register through the Classes section of the SolPlay website. Space is limited, and registration is complete once the required registration information and payment have been submitted.

By registering, you agree to SolPlay’s Registration Policies & Terms, Student Policies, and Privacy Policy.
